SCHOOL SECURITY OFFICER POSTINGSeeking school district Safety Resource Officers with responsibilities beginning as soon as possible during the school day, but may be extended from time to time for other school-related events.MISSION/GOALS/OBJECTIVESReduce and prevent school related violence and crime committed by juveniles and young adults. The Safety Resource Officer aims to create and maintain a safe, secure, and orderly learning environment for students, teachers, and other staff members. The objective of the program is to develop and enhance rapport between youth, police officers, school administrators, and parents.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESThe responsibilities of the Safety Resource Officer(s) include, but are not limited to: Enforce criminal law while protecting students, staff, and public against criminal activity. Provide routine security checks of the facilities.Assist administrators during investigations, which may include the presence of weapons, controlled dangerous substances, mental health crisis, irate family members, searches of persons/property, etc.

(if part of private school security)Complete reports and investigate crimes committed on campus.Be highly visible throughout the buildings, establishing a working relationship with the schools staff.Confer with building administration to develop plans and strategies to prevent and/or minimize dangerous situations that may arise involving students at school-related activities.Work with administration on school safety plans and upgrades, and assist in school safety drills and training.Assist with traffic control.Initiate positive interactions with students, promoting the profession, being a positive role model, and increasing visibility and accessibility of police in the community.Assist with student truancy/attendance issuesBe an intermediary between local law enforcement and school district administration.Assisting in emergency situations/threats.TRAINING/QUALIFICATIONSMust attend 40-hour SRO Basic Training through the Ohio School Resource Officers Association, or possess a valid Peace Officer CertificationThose interested in employment as private security personnel must successfully complete the states Armed School Staff Essential Training (ASSET), and remain compliantMay qualify as Auxiliary personnel through the local sheriffs department, or be commissioned through the sameHigh character, ethical personDAILY SCHEDULE8-hour days for up to 180 days of the school calendar for a total of 1,440 hoursEvening/extra hours count toward the total hours to be worked.
